Switched To Autocad For Mac
AutoCad 2D:: How To Switch From 3D To 2D Jun 3, 2008 My model space has been switched to a 3D space and I'm having a hard time figureing out how to change it. I would like it to be a 2D space.
I am using Auto CAD 2007. Similar Messages:.

Mar 1, 2013 We just upgraded to ACA 2013. I am trying to get a handle on our office standards. Part of doing that is to try and use as much out of the box as possible and keeping with the AIA layer standards. I have always used CTB for plotting. I am just now trying to learn about STB for the first time.
In the past, I would change things like a wall styles layer key style and display properties to conform to my CTB in order for it to plot the correct line weights. I want to be able to leave everything alone as much as possible and use STB. I want to use the AIA layers that ALL objects come in on as they are so that our office can use 100% of the out of the box objects and me not have to worry about changing each style to print properly. So I am going to make office standard wall, door, window, etc. Styles which will mostly be out of the box styles.
I also want people to be able to use the detail components. Some editing will take place but only in design, not layer key styles or display. I guess basically what I'm asking is this, is it possible to get things to plot the way I want without having to change anything about them, using a STB plot style and leaving all objects alone to exist on there AIA layers? May 25, 2011 One of our new users says they learned a way to switch from a 2D model to 3D via a toolbar located at the bottom the the ACAD dashboard. We use ACA2009. Apr 26, 2012 sometimes the 'last' entity is whatever the last one in the current view is (the entities you can see on the screen), but sometimes the 'last' item is the very last item created, whether you can see it in the view or not.
What is the command to use to switch between these two options? Aug 25, 2011 A while back, I sent some dxf files (all made in AC Lt 2010) to a company that uses a system called DP/Com. Apparently, this program reads coordinates (Y,X) instead of (X,Y), which means that they think all of my files are really wierd. Each and every number in the coordinates of my points are correct, so it's just the order I want to change.
Is there any way to 'switch' the coordinates of several points at once in AC? (Without having to extract a coordinate list, switch columns in Excel and then importing them back.?) Jan 27, 2006 Why does the current UCS change whenever I switch between views? (front, back, top, etc.) I'm using Autocad 2004. Sep 12, 2013 I just purchased the new ACAD2014. It works fine but every time that I launch the program the opening screen shows a grid and I have to turn it off. Is it possible to start up without the grid.
Jun 10, 2013 Our server is aging and needs replaced. Our in house IT guy wants to switch from PC to a Mac server. Which essentially means we would switch to Macs. All of our programs run in PC format and was wondering how this major change might affect how we are running right now. Feb 2, 2012 I dont know if this an Autocad Lt 2012 or windows 7 function, but a lot of times when I'm typing in Autocad (using Dtext), the caps lock seems to switch itself on and off, which of course is extremely annoying. How do I set Autocad or Windows 7 not to do this. May 13, 2010 We are having the issue with all of our Windows 7 machines that you cant switch back to Autocad using the Windows 7 taskbar.
When this happened with 2010 we chalked it up to 2010 not being compliant with the new taskbar in windows. But when it started happening with our Acad 2011 installs it gets frustrating. Alt Tab doesn't work. Hover and select a preview window doesn't work. The only thing that works is starting task manager and clicking 'Switch to'.
May 3, 2013 I would like to use iLogic to switch my design (rather complex assembly) between the 'full' version, a 'simple' version and a 'FEA' version. I'm learning Inventor step by step and did not studies the making of drawings yes. I'm not sure if it is ok to use iLogic for this purpose because I'm afraid my drawings will update to the simple' or 'FEA' versions. This is not what I want. And when using the 'FEA' version, will the FEA information get lost when I switch back to the 'full' or 'simple' versions?
Or in other words: Is it wise to use iLogic for this purpose? Nov 29, 2011 Using ACA 2012, I get a delay when I switch drawings, either using ctrl tab or the mouse. The ACA pauses for a moment. I also get the same issue going from model space tab to a paper space layout tab. Running Windows 7 Pro on a Xi machine Intel i5 2.8 ghz with 4gig of memory and a geforce 9800 GT video card.
I didn't have this with ACA 2008 prior to updating. Oct 31, 2011 modeling the actuator on a switch so when the cam rotates it moves the lever on the micro switch.

Mar 3, 2010 My system is setup to use different projects and vaults depending on which department one is working. Mar 8, 2011 I work for a large enterprise that has many machines(all the same) that have Inventor 2010 with the 3GB switch enabled. However, when a user tries to remotely connect the machine with the switch enabled, using Windows RDC, they are unable to. After removing the switch, the user is able to remote successfully. Other forums suggested that the 'SessionImageSpace' in the registry needed to be edited to allow for the connection, but that did not work for me. Machine Info: Dell T3500 Workstation Xeon Quad Core 2.8GHz 6GB RAM NVidia Quadro FX4800 2GB Windows XP SP3 Aug 8, 2013 We are looking to switch from SW to Autodesk in order to utilize advanced surfacing in Alias, and its interoperability with Inventor. However, we need to continue to perform Kinimatic linkage studies as well using Inventor. I need to make sure we can perform the same calculations with ease before making the switch.
At this point I am trying to mimic in Inventor the kinimatic studies I perform in SW. In SW I would perform these studies within a single part file, using a single sketch only (no solid parts). Within this part file I would break up the total 'travel' of the linkage into configurations that are driven by a 'Design Table'. The Design Table would be used for both the main driving value, and for any driven values I wanted to use for analysis.
I am trying to find a way to get the same driven variables written to an Excel file to use for analysis using Inventor. As a test example: I would like to drive one variable(Damper Length) to get 20 different iParts, each with the linkage moved to a new point within its set range of motion. I then would like to write several Driven variables(Displacement1-3 shown in 'RULE CODE' attachement) from each iPart instance to an Excel file. I have been able to get my 20 iParts and the linkage to move accordingly(iPART INSTANCES attachement), but I have not figured out how to write the driven data to excel for each iPart instance(20 rows of data, 3 columns).
I have only been able to write the dimesions for one row of data.whichever iPart is currently open. With the necessary iLogic code or another solution? It seems like this should be pretty straight forward. Do I need to be using the 'ChangeRow' iPart Snippet? Dec 23, 2013 I have a user that is trying to link a MS Word document to a.iam file. When he attempts to do this Inventor will embed the file instead of linking it.
Is it a config setting? Here are the steps he is using for this process: 1) Open an assembly into the Inventor workspace. 2) Go to 'Manage' tab. 3) Click 'Insert Object' link in ribbon. 4) Select 'Create from File.'
5) Browse for word document. 6) Checkmark 'Link' option. The result of this sequence of operations produces an 'embedded' file, not a linked file.
I can link this file on any other computer except this workstation. Oct 13, 2012 I want to switch to relative coordinate input without using @. How is this done? I can draw the light switch inside block editor no problem. My Objective: To insert a single light switch plate block into a drawing and have the ability to stretch the block to increase the number of switches from 1 to as many as 10 in a gang style.
The light switch box would do a basic stretch, but I just can't figure out how to increase the number of switches as the block increases in width. Jan 31, 2012 running AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012. From the beginning of my course I’ve had CAD opening to my template; from the options, under the file tab, then template settings, I set all four of the subcategories to my template and the appropriate folders.
My template is set with an engineering drawing scale. A couple weeks ago, I fired up CAD and it opened to a different template where it’s using an architectural scale. I checked my template settings in the options and they are the same. I closed CAD, reopened it, and have gotten the same result since then. When I open my drawings that I’ve been working on the scale goes back to engineering or if I manually open my template, it is an engineering scale as well. Is there another area that controls how CAD opens besides the options for templates settings? I really don’t understand how that could have been changed in the first place since we have always used our templates from the first week of class.
Feb 19, 2013 I am importing a dgn into autocad by using the SendStringToExecute method with the 'Import' command. My problem is that once I have the dgn imported I want to do some modification and then save the drawing, but setting a new dim to the current mdiactivedocument still gives me the initial document and not the one opened by the import command as I had thought it would. How can I switch the mdiactivedocument over to the newly opened document? Mar 14, 2012 Inside the trim command I cannot hit 'shift' to switch to the extend command instead.
For work I used AutoCAD 2012 on Windows 7. Typically AutoCAD uses up to 15% of my 1 year old i7 pc's cpu and 4 gb of memory. I know that AutoDesk has released AutoCAD for Mac but since it is not 100% equal to the windows version I need to stick with the windows version under Bootcamp. I use AutoCAD for strictly 2D work. I do landscape irrigation design, so 3D is not needed.
We do deal with large files with some files having 50+ xrefs. I'm looking for a computer which is able to do light AutoCAD work, but when I use it is able to meet all my needs.
I will use this computer maybe once a week to do half a days CAD work, when I get back from meetings and don't want to drive down to the office. I was originally planning on a 27' Imac but I think it is overkill for me. I have an old G5 Power Mac with a 20' ACD.
I can use my existing 20' ACD with the Mac mini, which I like because it is a matte display. When the 2011 Mac mini's came out they peaked my interest. When the Mac mini isn't being used for AutoCAD, it will be used mainly as a server and HTPC. I was planning on buying the $799 Mac Mini and upgrading separately with a 120 GB SSD, 1 TB HD, and 8GB memory. Would the dedicated graphics card be worth it for 2D CAD? Or could I upgrade to the i7 Server (that would increase my Handbrake rips) but also be able to handle 2D CAD?
Thanks in advance! I just downloaded AutoCAD WS and it is okay. It was able to open some large files that I had but it had problems plotting to PDF. I know it is a very simple editor, mainly for viewing CAD files. You really can't complain when it is a free product.
On a side note, I was out in the field today and a developer for a large scale project was using ArcGIS on the iPad. It was pretty cool, he had the site's plans in the program and it had GPS built in so when we were out in the middle of nowhere it showed us exactly where we were in the project. I wish AutoDesk would add this is AutoCad WS. That would be a kick ass feature. For work I used AutoCAD 2012 on Windows 7.

Click to expand.I've had Autocad WS for my iphone, but what I was meaning was they now have AutoCAD WS for Mac. It is basically the same as the iphone and ipad version, but on your Mac. Since you have AutoCAD for Mac, it wouldn't matter much to you, but I was hopping I could use it to make PDFs and small changes without having to go into Parallels or bootcamp.
Its not quite there yet, you can't change LTscales or other commands I need for plotting. I did wish that they fixed the issue with attributes in blocks, none of our attributes show up in WS. Click to expand.I was at first leaning this way because I knew that AutoCAD mainly uses one core and benefits more from a higher clock rate. Also I have always been told that a dedicated graphics card is superior to an integrated card for CAD. But this is where I start to waiver on that selection. I only use on average 10% of my PC's CPU when doing CAD.
I am now where near maxing out the CPU due to our CAD work only being 2D and then with only using the machine for about 4 hours a week, I figured the quad core would suit me better since I could use it for my handbrake rips. The biggest determining factor would be if the intel integrated graphics card could handle my 2d CAD. If it could without a problem for the next 2-3 revisions of AutoCAD (till AutoCAD 2014) then I could justify getting the sever. The reason why I'm nervous is because my work is paying for half my computer and if AutoCAD won't run properly my boss will wonder why he gave me the money then.
I was liking the server now because I wouldn't have to pay for the CPU upgrade and then mess with buying the Sata cable online. With the server I can pop out one of the HD, replace it with an SSD and then slap the HD in an external case as a backup drive.

At least for the time being I'll still use the windows version. Does anyone know what the fee autodesk charges from switching the license from pc to Mac? - Thanks, I just wasn't sure. At the office we have 2GB video cards in our workstations. I know 2D is nowhere near as intensive as 3D but in many files we have 5 square miles of urban design plans open. That is a lot of homes, streets and utilities. Every one gives the intel graphics such a hard time, I wanted to get some opinions.
