Mac OS 9.x and earlier, Mac OS X Classic Symptoms: - Unable to make adjustments to printer-specific options such as Installed Paper Trays, Printer Memory etc, and/or - The driver does not display the expected options for your printer, even after selecting the correct PPD (PostScript Printer Description) file. Solution: This may be caused by the Mac OS retaining preferences from other/older printers installed on the system. If you suspect this is the case, then perform the following steps to remove printer preferences. Warning - You may lose saved driver settings and custom paper sizes by performing the following steps. Drag any Desktop printers to the Trash/Wastebasket. Locate the following folder using the Finder System Folder: Preferences: Printing Prefs Inside this Printing Prefs folder, there will be a prefs file for your driver; 'AdobePS Prefs' or 'LaserWriter 8 Prefs'.
Delete this prefs file. Locate the following folder using the Finder System Folder: Preferences: Printing Prefs: Parsed PPD Folder Inside this Printing Prefs folder, there may be a PPD file corresponding to your printer, for example 'Oki C9400.ppd'. Delete this ppd file. Set up your printer again via the Chooser (AppleTalk) or Desktop Printer Utility (USB/TCP-IP). Note: On non-English Mac OS versions, the names of the folders referenced above will be translated.
